Ahhh, motherhood.
I. Could. Not. Wait. To. Be. A. Mom.
I was in love with my first baby.
Before he was a year old, I was already pregnant with our second.
And then the babies just kept coming.
I swear, Dad, I don’t know how.
Ours is a busy house. A noisy house. A messy house. A tiny house. Wherever I go, they manage to find me.
As much as I love my kids, as present as I want to be in their lives, I’ve found myself saying…on more than one occasion…
“I JUST WANT TO PEE ALONE!!!!”
And sometimes, I need a good belly laugh to get me through the day.
You can relate, can’t you?
I Just Want to Pee Alone is a collection of essays from the funniest broads I’ve ever read.
Including:
- People I Want to Punch in the Throat, with whom we all fell in love after reading her viral post about that godforsaken elf on the shelf that I refuse to allow in this house
- Four Plus an Angel
- Honest Mom (yep, the recent guest of Katie Couric)
- Rants From Mommyland (hello, Parents Magazine pick for Blog Most Likely to Make You Laugh in 2013)
- Insane in the Mom Brain
- Toulouse and Tonic
- and ME!
I’m thrilled to have an original essay in this hilarious anthology!

Congratulations, Bethany! Wow, I’m so excited for you. 😀 Well, now you’re never going to get any grocery shopping done with all those new fans running down the Acme aisles to get your autograph. 😛 Seriously, I wish you the best of success with this first of many books to come, and I’m downloading one to my Kindle now. xxxd
Thank you so much, Dee!! So far I’m able to remain anonymous while grocery shopping. And without anyone shoving a book and a pen under my nose. I’m guessing they’re at home reading their books and I can expect the deluge NEXT week…
XO

Hello! I stumbled upon your blog when reading ‘Rants from Mommyland’ and am loving it. I’m busily reading through your archives at any spare moment (I have two boys ages 4 and 1, so…). Today my coworker caught me with tears welling up while standing at the microwave. I had just read ‘up and away he grows’ and immediately thought, “dammit, Bethany, your blog should have a waterproof mascara required warning”. Whether the tears are from laughter or gratitude for sharing your poignant moments, I’m enjoying every line. Thank you for presenting to me the idea that I should take care of me to better be able to care for a smelly, rowdy house full of boys! -ew
Elena, I just got chills reading your comment! I owe Julie from Rants. Her readers are the bomb-diggity! Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment. I started writing because it felt like nobody around here was listening to my stories, and I HAVE STORIES, PEOPLE! BY GOD, SOMEONE WILL HEAR THESE STORIES! I also consider it a legacy of sorts for my kids if they ever want to look through the my lens at their childhood. One thing I never anticipated was that other Moms…like you…who’ve never met me and don’t know my kids would read and connect to my writing. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It’s right up there with one of the greatest feelings ever. XO
